In 2012, the CFA Institute made a change to the scholarship program with the introduction of the new Access Scholarship Program, a needs-based scholarship opportunity for those who are unable to afford the full price of the CFA Program enrollment and registration fees. In order to promote the CFA Program to those in financial need, the CFA Institute transitioned to a new scholarship program.
-
Access Scholarships reduce exam registration/enrollment fees to $250, almost $800 less than the price of registration and includes access to the eBook
-
3,400 scholarships were awarded to CFA Program applicants under the new Access Scholarships for 2017.
-
Global, online application with continued participation from local societies (including CFA Alabama) to assist with selecting recipients in their geographic regions
-
All awards can be used for either exam cycle – June or December
-
Access awards can be used for any Program level (I, II or III)
The Access Scholarship program will continue to involve local member societies and leverage their local presence and knowledge in the selection of recipients. At the same time, the CFA Institute implemented a uniform global application process that simplifies the scholarship search for prospective candidates.
Interested candidates should note that obtaining a scholarship will now take some advance planning, much like financial aid applications for students attending a university. Access scholarships are awarded in December to be applied to exams in the following year. If awarded, the recipient can apply the scholarship to:
-
the June exam (Levels I, II, and III) or
-
the December exam (Level I only).
CFA PREPARATION
Our society supports the efforts of local CFA candidates by sponsoring a variety of CFA exam preparation and review opportunities. Experienced and respected academicians and investment practitioners coach candidates on CFA curriculum topics, such as securities analysis and investment valuation, financial accounting, quantitative analysis, economics, asset allocation, and portfolio management. Participation in an organized program can complement the self-study design of the CFA Program.
CFA PROGRAM
The CFA Program provides a strong foundation of advanced investment analysis and real-world portfolio management skills that will give you a career advantage. Earning the CFA charter demonstrates you have the knowledge, skills, and experience needed for investment analysis and management in today's dynamic global markets.

CFA EXAM TIPS & TRICKS
The CFA™ examinations are very comprehensive, difficult, time-pressured and exhausting. The key to successfully passing the examinations is preparation. You should expect to devote a minimum of between 250 and 300 hours to prepare for each examination and plan on beginning your preparation no later than between 4 and 6 months before your exam. Since most candidates do not pass their CFA examinations the first time, it is critical to know how to prepare, where to focus and that you have the support you need to succeed.
